That is the side attracting licences, labels and chart rules.

On the other sits generative tooling. A machine proposes musical material, then hands it to you as notes you can move. You stay the author. That is the side shipping into DAWs.

Both are moving quickly. Suno had already partnered with Warner Music Group.

It is worth holding both facts at once, though. A German court also ruled this year that Suno had unlawfully processed, stored and reproduced musical works while training. Licensing forward does not erase what came before. Disclosure is becoming a platform feature, and not just a courtesy. On 25th August 2026, Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) updated its Charts Code of Practice, and from the 29th August charts, fully AI-generated tracks are barred from Australia’s official charts.

Note the wording, because it matters. Only fully AI-generated music is excluded. Tracks made with generative AI still qualify when they are “substantially human-made” and raise no chart manipulation concerns. ARIA can pull recordings, adjust positions and revoke awards, and artists can contest a ruling. Variety reported the decision when it landed.

A chart body has now written a test for authorship, and we can expect others to copy the language.

The Tools That Keep You Grounded

While the charts were busy drawing lines, the tool side got quieter and a good deal more useful. An arpeggiator is generative. So is a Euclidean sequencer. They take a small input and return more music than you put in, and nobody has ever questioned who wrote the result.

That is the design idea behind Eternal Arps. You play a chord. It builds patterns from it, modelled on how real players actually move, rather than the fixed up-down shapes a stock arpeggiator gives you.

Three parts of it matter for this conversation. Variations let you nudge a pattern slightly or push it somewhere unexpected. Scatter spreads or clusters the notes, which is how you get glissandos and strums instead of a grid. And the Pattern Oasis selector will randomise for you when you want the machine to suggest first.

Then there is MIDI Capture. It records what the plugin played and drops it into your DAW as notes you can edit. That is the MIDI test, passed. Nothing leaves the plugin as a finished object.

It also ships with sampled Harp, Marimba, Santoor and Guitar, so patterns arrive with real instrument character rather than a synth stand-in.

Hear Eternal Arps in action

None of this is new, and that is rather the point. Bounce-only workflows leave you nothing to point at.

Prefer tools that output notes

Given two tools of equal quality, take the one that returns MIDI. You keep the option to change your mind later, and the authorship question never arises. Our comparison of chord generators and manual MIDI works through the same trade-off.

Disclose early, not late

Platform labelling is arriving whether or not you opt in. So it is worth deciding now what you are happy to say about a release, rather than working it out after the fact.

Judge the output, not the method

A generated idea you reshape for an hour is your work. A generated track you accepted untouched is not. That line has nothing to do with how clever the model is. We argued this before the rules caught up, in is AI killing creativity in music production.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the latest generative music updates?

Four stand out. Suno and BMG signed a global alliance in August. Apple confirmed “Made With AI” labels, rolling out later this year. ARIA barred fully AI-generated tracks from Australia’s charts. And Roland released Melody Flip, which exports MIDI as well as audio.

Is AI-assisted music still allowed on the ARIA charts?

Yes. Only fully AI-generated tracks are excluded. Music made with generative AI can still chart when it is “substantially human-made” and raises no chart manipulation concerns. ARIA can remove recordings and revoke awards, though artists can contest a decision.

What is Roland Melody Flip?

It is a DAW plugin Roland built with Sony Computer Science Laboratories. You give it an audio file, it analyses the musical characteristics, and it suggests melodies from roughly 300 creative palettes. It can also generate chords, bass and drums, and it exports MIDI as well as audio.

Is an arpeggiator generative music?

Technically yes. An arpeggiator takes a small input and produces more musical material than you played. The difference is that it returns notes you can edit, so authorship stays with you. That is why tools like Eternal Arps sit outside the current debate entirely.

How do I keep using AI tools without losing authorship?

Work with tools that hand back MIDI, edit what they give you, and keep the project file. If your session shows real decisions, the question answers itself.
